EXPOSITION TEXT

1.     Definition

News, theses, or research reports are scientific writings. They can be categorised as a type of exposition text because they contain a lot of author opinions.

In this unit, we will learn about exposition text’s definition, function, generic structure, language feature, and the example.

Exposition text is a comprehensive description and explanation of an idea or theory. It means that exposition text is a persuasive text that contains important issues that are currently being discussed. It also contains the author’s opinions and arguments. So, it’s also called as argumentative text because it will be dominated by the author’s arguments.

There are two kinds of exposition text. They are analytical exposition text and hortatory exposition text. Let us see the differences between them.

a.     Analytical exposition text is a text that elaborates the author’s idea about the phenomenon surrounding and persuade the reader or listener.

b.     Hortatory exposition is a type of spoken or written text that is intended to explain the listeners or reader that something should or should not happen.

2.     Social Function

a.    Social Function of Analytical Exposition Text is to persuade the readers that the topic is an important topic to be discussed.

b.    Social Function of Analytical Exposition Text is to persuade the readers or listeners that something should or should not be the case.

3.     Generic Structure

Generic Structure of Analytical Exposition Text:

a.     Thesis: Introduce the topic and the writer’s point of view.

b.      Arguments: Explain the arguments to support the writer’s position

c.     Reiteration: Restate the writer’s point of view. The following phrase are to make reiteration:

·       From the fact above …

·       I personally believe …

·        Therefore, my conclusion is …

·        In conclusion …

Generic Structure of Hortatory Exposition Text:

a.     Thesis: Introduce the topic and the writer’s point of view.

b.      Arguments: Reasons that will lead to recommendation

c.      Recommendation: Statement of what should or should not happen or be done based on the given arguments

4.     Language Features

Language Features of Analytical Exposition Text:

a.     Uses Simple Present Tense

b.     Uses modality

c.     Uses compound and complex sentence

d.     Uses internal conjunction

Language Features of Hortatory Exposition Text:

a.     Uses Simple Present Tense

b.     Uses mental processes, material processes, and

c.     relational processes

d.     Uses conjunction

Title

Teens and Character Education

Thesis

Adolescence is a time of transition from the time of children to early adulthood. Teens are in the range of 10 years of age up to 21 years. At the time the teens are searching for his identity. Therefore, adolescents must have character education in order to steer his interest on positive activities. Character education that can be given to adolescents, to behave honestly, creative, confident, polite, and caring.

Argument

Teens experiencing emotional turmoil due to changes in weight and height are also influential on the development of psychism. During the turmoil, it is hard times so that teenagers need strong self-control when  in school, at home, and in the environmental community.

In a State like this, teenagers need adults to direct himself. To that end, in order not to fall on negative things, teenagers need to have character education.

Character education is able to make teenagers to become achievers.

In their character education taught religious values describing the kindness to let teenagers grow as human beings who tuned in to the social environment.

In addition, they also taught the value of tolerance and the value of peace or human values that shape adolescent has the nature of ethical, compassionate and love of peace.

In character education that also taught them the value of hard work, like a creative, independent, and have a high curiosity that can make teens as overachievers.

Reiteration

Thus, the positive values in character education that can form a winning teen. They will be able to compete well at the national level as well as international level.

In doing so, teens who have strong character will grow as the teenager who excels and proud because it is physically healthy, stable emotions, and his intellectual thrive

 


2.    The Examples of Hortatory Exposition

Nowadays, in modern era, I think internet is very important for students. As we all know internet has many functions for supporting our life.

Argument 1

First, it gives us various information, news, knowledge etc. Students can search anything or something from internet. Take for example, they search about education, entertainment, knowledge etc that is in the world

Argument 2

Second, they can add their friends in all countries in the world by internet. Chatting, e-mail, Facebook, twitter, Instagram are some examples of internet facility to have many friends. Besides, they can share, communicate, discuss and so on

Recoomendation
