1. Definition
The following are the definitions of procedure
text:
· Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction manually.
e.g. how to operate LCD, how to download YouTube video, how to use a printer, etc.
· Texts that instruct how to do a
certain activity.
e.g. a leaflet, road safety rules, recipes of food, etc.
· Texts that deal with human
behaviour
e.g. how to live happily, how to be success, etc.
2. Social Function
To
describe how something is completely done through a sequence of steps.
3. Generic Structure
a. Goal (containing the purpose of
the text, for example, ―How to Make a Kite)
b. Materials or tools (containing
the materials used in the process, for example, a piece of paper, glue,
scissors, strings, frame, etc.)
c. Method or Step 1- n (containing
the steps to make something in the goal, for example, 1) dampen cane to make flexible,

4. Language Features
a. Focus on generalised human
agents (often implicit)/
b. Using adverbial of sequence /
Using temporal conjunction. For example: first, second, third, finally, the

5. Example
How to Make Pancakes
Ingredients:
· 1 cup all purpose flour
· An egg
· 2 teaspoons baking powder
· 1/2 teaspoon salt
· Unsalted butter/vegetable oil
· 1 cup milk
· 2 tablespoons sugar
·
For
toppings: use maple syrup, honey, chocolate syrup or jam
Steps:
1. Take a large bowl and mix flour,
sugar, baking powder and salt. Make sure the ingredients are perfectly mixed.
2. Pour in milk, beaten egg, and
oil. Mix all the ingredients until smooth.
3. Heat a frying pan with medium
high heat.
4. Add some butter or vegetable
oil.
5. Scoop the pancakes batter by
using a ladle.
6. Cook until it is brown on the
both sides then put it in a plate.
7. Continue till all the pancakes
batter run out. Just remember to add more butter or vegetable oil.
8. When all the pancakes are
cooked, you can add some topping. I myself prefer chocolate syrup as the
topping.
